Joe Graham The Belfast History Man

Glencairn Road right into the 20th century was known as Monks Hill Road, a reference to the ancient site of a Catholic Monastery, and was one of the six Altarages referrred to belonging to St. Patrick's ancient Chapel where Shankill graveyard sits today. Like many place names that explained an old Irish or Catholic presence they were changed  which can be confusing to those looking up the real history of a locality. In speaking of 'Hidden History' it is that which I refer to, not digging holes down round Belfast City Centre which will merely expose evidence that yes indeed Belfast is merely a town established by Chichester and his pirates in recent history.
